Uploading your web site with Dreamweaver
Uploading your web site with Dreamweaver

It is very important that you correctly configure Dreamweaver to upload your files to the correct location on our web server for your web site and associated files to be visible whenever someone enters your web site address.

From within Dreamweaver you can create or edit new site definitions by going to the "Site" menu and selecting "Manage Sites". Here you can either create a "New..." site or "Edit..." an existing one.

Both options request the same information from you although if you are creating a new site it is likely you will be presented with a "Wizard" to assist you in the setup of your site.

If you are presented with a "Wizard" to help you setup your site, here are some of the questions you may get asked and the answers you need to give. Please substitute www.your-new-name.com, yourFTPlogin and yourpassword with the values that would have been sent to you when you ordered your hosting package.

How do you connect to your remove server?
FTP

What is the hostname ofFTP address of your Web server?
www.your-new-name.com

What folder on the server do you want to store your files in?
/web/

What is your FTP login:
yourFTPlogin

What is your FTP password:
yourpassword

Put a tick in the Save box.

If you are editing an existing site it is possible that you may not be presented with a "Wizard". If this is the case click on the "Advanced" tab at the top of the dialog box, select the "Remote Info" section and make sure the details you enter follow the format given below Access: FTP
FTP host: wwww.your-new-name.com
Host directory: /web/
Login: yourFTPlogin
Password: yourpassword

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES

If your connection is extremely slow or you have difficultly uploading files you may wish to try enabling "Passive Transfers". Go to the "Site" menu and select "Manage Sites". Select the site you wish to enable for Passive Transfers and click on "Edit...". Click on the "Advanced" tab, select "Remote Info", place a tick in the "Use passive FTP" box and press "OK". Try connecting to your site again to determine whether there is a speed improvement.

Our servers are cAsE SenSItiVE, we recommend that you keep all your filenames lowercase. Eg. filename.html is correct, Filename.html and FILENAME.HTML are not.

Do not include spaces in your files names. Eg. filename.html is correct, file name.html is not.

Your "homepage" must be called index.html or index.htm (index.html will take priority over index.htm if both files exist) to display automatically whenever someone enters your web site address.
